Blaine
Street Solo 2002
Annie and I attended the Blaine Grand Prix,
aka Blaine Street Solo on August 10th and 11th, in Blaine, Washington.
Blaine is a small town at the border between Washington and Canada. There
is the normal crossing just west of here for cars, but Blaine is where the truck
crossing is.
The Street Solo is run on public roads in an
industrial park. The city of Blaine has been very accommodating and allows
the Chuckanut Sports Car Club (CSCC) to close down the streets that we use for
this event. Since these are public streets, they have curbs on both sides
of the two lane roads, along with the normal fire hydrants, utility poles, etc.
So obviously, there is more risk involved than a normal autocross, but it's a
real blast to run on public streets!
We decided since we were so close to
Nationals, that rather than taking a chance with Bart (our '98 Type R) on the
streets, that we'd take Eddie (our '90 Spec Miata road race car.)
The CSCC put on an excellent event, allowing
us two runs Saturday evening on a course that was different from the actual
event, and then a total of four more runs on Sunday using the actual course.
Since the Spec Miata isn't classed in SCCA
for 2002, we ran it in DP, which hurt us on the index. For 2003, the car
will be classed in DSP. Annie and I used this index when we were seeing
how we did, and I would have had top Pax for the day on both Saturday and
Sunday.
Here are some pictures of us running at the
event. The CSCC people took pictures on Sunday morning, and had them
developed and waiting for us when the day was over!
